Picnic

Hey there blog friends!

So yesterday, while Phil was out at his physical therapy appointment, I decided I was going to do a video blog, and then the camera decided to die on me right in the middle of it. Oh well...I didn't have anything important to video blog about, just nonsense.

When Phil got home though, we went on our first picnic. There is a huge park about a block away from us called Desert Breeze. There is a big fishing lake and and a train that runs around the whole park on the weekends. When my cousin JJ was just a little guy we would take him over there and I would ride on the train with him.

So with our cooler packed with sandwiches and goodies, we headed over to the park and found a nice place to sit. The weather was a little hot yesterday, but not too bad, better then it has been this summer. There was also a ton of fish in the lake and I got on video these fishes tearing up a pretzel we threw in the water. It is crazy!! There is also another, very mushy video, that Phil took, which I think is adorable and whether you like mush or not, I am going to post it along with my pretzel-eating fish video shortly, or as soon as I am able to get around to loading the videos.

My parents came by this morning for a little bit, and it was nice to see them, I miss them a lot. Once they left Phil and I had lunch and then were going to head back to the park to go fishing. After we ate, though, I needed to come online to take care a few things, and he was watching some TV. He came here, into the bedroom, when I was almost done, and laid down on the bed talking to me. Next thing I know, he is snoring! Now, I am not sure if I should wake him so we can go fishing, or if I should just let him sleep. Hm...maybe I will just see if he wakes up on his own...

Well, that's about it from my end right now. I need to upload the videos I made yesterday to YouTube so I can post them on here, and I also have some pictures I will share with you. I decided that video blogs don't always have to be me ranting in front of the camera, they can be of anything that I take video off in my daily adventures.

Trust the Kimbo Fishermen

I hope you and yours had a happy and safe 4th of July. I don't know about some of you, but here in Arizona, the temps have been outrageous. The high yesterday was 116 degrees, and so far today at 3pm the temp is 113 and climbing, with a high forecasted for 120. This has been the hottest summer we've had in a long time. Luckily the monsoon's are shortly on their way, which will bring some wonderful storms which I love, and some rain which we desperately need.

Even though I knew it was going to be a hot day yesterday, I decided to surprise my fiance and ask if he wanted to go fishing, as he had the day off. Now, as I mentioned in an early blog, Phil has a huge love of fishing, and well, Kimbo isn't really the outdoorsy kind of girl. But I bought myself a fishing pole and all the accessories I need for said pole, and figured since this is one of his favorite hobbies, I would give it a try. After all, I can't expect him to go to a play or the symphony with me, if I won't sit down and try a little fishing.

We headed out first to Walmart to get some drinks and look around, then headed over to Power Ranch, which is a huge master planned community near where we live that has a catch and release lake. There was no one out there by their lake, so we had the place to ourselves except for the people swimming at the pool. We got everything set up and he showed me a few things, and away we fished. He taught me how to cast out my line, which I started getting kinda good at, and at one point I had a tiny fish on my line, but I moved my line in too soon, and he got away. Phil did hook me a fish, and I brought it in, which means I actually caught my first fish! It was a carp, nothing too huge, but it was a fish, and it was actually pretty fun. I have to admit that I thought fishing was going to be boring, but I found it to be fun and actually pretty relaxing. I was glad I was able to do something that he loves to do, and I think he enjoyed being able to teach me and having me genuinely interested in something of his. I would definitely do it again.

Later that night we went out to the clubhouse, as we live on a gold course, and we were able to see the fireworks display that goes off about three miles from us. It was really pretty, and it has been awhile since I have watched a fireworks display in person. Normally I just stay inside and watch it on TV because its always so hot and I have no one to watch them with. Its nice being able to have someone in my life to do things with, who I know, no matter what, is always going to be there through the good times and bad.

Well, I am off to brave the heat and check the mail...so I will leave you with some pics of me fishing...

Kimbo: A Fisherman??

I have never been an outdoor type of girl. I prefer climate controlled establishments over trekking out in the elements, shopping over sports, and computers over camping. Frankly, being outdoorsy or woodsy just never appealed to me. I don't like to get dirty. Its not that I am a totally girly girl, I just prefer to be indoors. I am very much a homebody.

My sweet fiance though, is an outdoors kinda man. He loves to hunt, camp, fish, shoot, all that good stuff. He's not the kind who likes to stay indoors for long, as he enjoys getting out of the house and doing something. Now, in a way, this is good for me, because I need to get out of the house more, I spend way too much time here and way too much time in front of this laptop. But its my comfort zone, and true to my Cancer nature, home is where I feel safe.

I knew a few weeks ago that I must love this man when we ventured into the new Bass Pro Shop store in Mesa. This is just not a store Kimbo would ever go into, but Phil was so excited and how could I not go in with him after seeing how cute he was. He's mentioned going hunting, which I told him I won't do for two reasons, which is 1. I just couldn't go out there and kill an innocent animal, I would feel terrible and 2. With my luck, some wild animal will start chasing me and I can only go 4mph in this chair. Camping...eh, I don't know, it doesn't sound like much fun to me, and again, the whole wild animal chasing me scenario plays in the head. Shooting...no way! I can barely look at a gun without getting scared, and I am sure as hell I would shot myself in the foot, because I am that clumsy. Now an air rifle...maybe...but a real gun, no.

Fishing...well, that's a possibility. I'd given some thought to it, after all, its something he loves and I do want to be able to share in one of his pastimes, just as I know he would do the same for me. So Sunday we went into the Sportsman Warehouse and I saw their fishing section and told Phil, "I want my own fishing pole." He was surprised, and I told him that I really did want my own, after all, if I was going to try out this fishing thing, I wanted to have my own equipment. So we picked out a nice pole and he got me all set with a tackle box and a lot of different things that I have no idea how to use.

For those who know me, I am sure your getting a laugh out of this, because whoever thought Kimbo would be out there with a fishing pole, trying to catch some fishes? Sure as hell not me! I already told him that I am not touching a fish, and I don't want to touch the bait either because I don't want to go around smelling like stink bait. I know, I am such a wuss. I am not sure when we are going to go fishing, maybe this weekend over at Power Ranch. I might hate it, then again I might love it. My thought is that relationships and marriage are all about compromise, and sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. So I told him I would try out this fishing business, as long as he doesn't say anything when I ask him to go to the symphony with me.
